88-year-old Virginia man completes hike on Appalachian Trail
Virginia resident Bill Kingrea checked a lifelong dream off his bucket list: To hike the Appalachian Trail.
The 88-year-old had a large task ahead of him, as the hike totaled 100 miles of Virginia’s section of the Appalachian Trail.
While Kingrea’s hike was originally a personal goal, it soon became much more than that. The hiker also raised thousands of dollars for Hope Distributed, a nonprofit food bank located in Rockingham.
Kingrea hoped to inspire his peers to take journeys and have new experiences, despite their age.
Arlington family gets an unexpected Christmas ornament
A Virginia family was shocked to find an unexpected addition to their Christmas tree one night.
To the family’s surprise, a barred owl flew in from their chimney and perched itself atop their Christmas tree (even knocking over the tree’s star to make room).
The Animal Welfare League successfully removed the owl from the home, and the owl went back into the woods.
Danville dog finds owners that truly understand him
An abandoned chihuahua found a new home—but this isn’t your typical pet adoption story.
Taki, a seven-year-old chihuahua was found abandoned and ill on the side of the road. The Animal Medical Center of Danville took in the sick dog, where he was later diagnosed with diabetes.
Taki’s medical condition made it especially hard for him to get adopted; that is, until Brittany Hardiman came along.
Hardiman’s daughter also has diabetes, and the two found the paw-fect companionship with their shared conditions.
