Kaine wins re-election to US Senate

US Sen. Tim Kaine will serve a third term in the Senate.

US Sen. Tim Kaine defeated a far-right challenger in Virginia’s US Senate race this year.

Kaine defeated Republican Hung Cao with 53% of the vote as of 10:44pm, according to the Virginia Department of Elections. Kaine was widely expected to win the race. 

Kaine campaigned hard this year and maintained a comfortable lead in the polls heading into Election Day. Kaine will serve a third six-year term in the US Senate after he was first elected to serve there in 2013.
