Two Virginia natives received nominations for the 67th annual Grammy Awards.

Two Virginia natives received nominations for the 67th annual Grammy Awards.

Richmond native Mad Skillz and Fairfax County native Shaboozey both showed up on the Grammy Awards nominees list.

Both artists received commercial success in the past year, and they both received nominations for the first time.

Mad Skillz is nominated for Best Spoken Word Album for The Seven Number Ones

Locals recently spotted the rapper in his hometown this summer, where he performed for thefirst time in over a decade. Despite the long hiatus, his musical prowess continued—he’s since been recognized by the Academy.

Meanwhile, Shaboozey was nominated for Song of the Year with “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” his first breakout hit.
